We are 42CrMo4 Round Bar manufacturers and manufacture a vast range of sizes and use only from prime quality billets and blooms as raw material. 42CrMo4 Steel Round Bars are always supplied with the test certificates and can be supplied in bulk quantity as well as retail quantity as per customers’ requirements. 42CrMo4 round bars are supplied by us to various engineering and forging industries. 42CrMo4 Alloy Steel – SAE-AISI 4140 is classified as low alloy steel. Medium carbon steels are high-strength steels that include EN19 as an important member in the low alloy category. These steels show a positive response to a variety of heat treatments. 42CrMo4 is a 1% chromium – molybdenum medium hardenability general purpose high tensile steel – generally supplied hardened and tempered in the tensile range of 850 –1000 Mpa (condition T). 42CrMo4 Alloy steel is a high quality, high tensile alloy steel usually supplied readily machinable in ‘ T’ condition, giving good ductility and shock resisting properties combined with resistance to wear. We specialize in the supply of EN19, 4140, 42CrMo4 Hot Rolled Steel Round Bars.
Grade Application
42CrMo4 alloy steel is widely used for engineering steel purpose, such as: making various kinds of machinery, automobile, mining spare part, the gearwheel of the engine, the driving gear of supercharger, the connecting rob, the pin chock under the high pressure, parts for power train applications, cold formed fastener components, shafts, gears, drill collars for the oil exploration, etc.

Heat Treatment
42CrMo4 is alloy steel for quenching and tempering, which has a good combination of strength and toughness in the quenched and tempered condition. After the oil quenching, the steel will be hardened up to ø60 mm bar diameter. The microstructure of larger dimensions is not a fully martensite.
Tempering
Heat to 205-649°C, then cools in water or oil. normal delivery hardness 18-22 HRC.
Forging Properties
42CrMo4 is forged at 926 to 1205°C.
Stress Reliving
450-650°C
Annealing
- Heat steel 42CrMo4 forged steel slowly and thoroughly to 800-850°C.
- Cool slowly in the furnace to the temperature 480°C.
- Complete annealing the steel in the air.
Normalizing
840-880 °C
Density
7.85kg/m3 Tensile strength: 655 MPA

Hardness
295 – 355
Hardening
First quenching heated slowly to 880°C, Then after adequate soaking at this temperature quench in oil or water. Temper as soon as tools reach room temperature. Second quenching heat to 780-820°C, then quenching in oil or water.

Machinability
42CrMo4 alloy steel has good machinability in the annealed condition.
Welding
Engineering steel 42CrMo4 has only limited weldability. Preheating to 200-300°C is strongly recommended; the upper limit should not be exceeded because of the risk for deterioration of the chrome layer. Alloy steel 42CrMo4 can be friction welded. However, precautions are necessary so as to limit the formation of undesirable microstructures in the welded zone.
